Salvation Mountain appears to be just another religious-based money making scheme, located near the entrance of Slab City in Niland, California. The following pages describe why it's our position that Salvation Mountain was made by someone who apparently isn't really a Christian after all. We just thought he was. This website is here to expose the truth about a man who claims to live by the word of God.
Dateline: 2002 - This used to be the Salvation Mountain website, formerly donated to Leonard Knight by The Slab City Organization. Now it's the Jesus, Inc. website, complete with a toxic roadside attraction. After I saw what a money-making scheme he had going, I decided to stop helping him out. I donated countless dollars and hours of my time, just to find out that he's not a real Christian after all. He only pretends to be one so he can scam money from people. I was one of the stupid ones at first. He pretends to be poor, but he's actually raking in the dough from Christians who feel bad, thinking he is having a rough life. I have a feeling, from what I saw today, that just the opposite is true. With all that cash he's raking in, he can build his own website, why should I pay for it? However, I must hand it to him, that's a great scam he's got going, pretending to be poor. I'll bet he has the IRS fooled too. He probably makes between $30K - $50K a year from the tourists. I wonder when's the last time Leonard filled out a tax return with the Internal Revenue Service. How come I have to report my income and he doesn't?
The last time I talked to Leonard, I asked him to hand out some stickers (along with those postcards he gets by the case) with this URL, to help promote his casue, and possibly bring in a few bucks to help pay for this website. He once asked me to put up some QuickTime videos of him thanking everybody. He also wanted me to put a video of him talking about ACTS 2:38. I helped him out, and put the stuff on the internet for him. When it came time to return a favor, he showed me what a fake Christian he is. He said he couldn't help me becasue he had to keep a "low-profile". In the same breath, he mentioned that Peter Jennings was supposedly coming down from ABC news for an interview. Low profile? When did that start happening? He never has his "low-profile" attitude whenever the LA Times comes out for another interview. He never acts "low-profile" on the weekends when all those tourists are handing him twenty dollar bills. WHAT A FAKE! He only helps somebody out when it's convenient for him to do so. What a way to stab a friend in the back after they've done you a favor. Not exactly giving Christians a good name...I guess it's just another Jesus, Inc. scam.
UPDATE: Aug 2003 - I was told that Leonard has been saying that I tried to "fleece" him for money or something like that. This supports my earlier theory that he's not a God fearing man, he's simply copying slogans from the Bible in order to secure financial gain. Anyone can paint slogans on a hill and pretend to be something they're not. A TRUE Christian knows that the 10 Commandments forbids him from "bearing false witness", or spreading lies. The truth is, I once asked him for a favor in return for hosting his website. I never asked him for a penny of his money, I only wanted him to hand out some Slab City Organization bumper stickers, which I was going to provide. By him telling everyone that I tried to fleece him, this just goes to show I was right about him. Anyone who gives money to a fake Christian, who uses the name of God to make an easy profit, does so at their OWN RISK!
