UPDATE 2002: - Leonard Knight appears to be a pretend Christian. I think he's nothing more than a parking attendant at a roadside freak-show. I have known him for a while now, and I must admit that I was fooled at first. I once thought he was a man in need. Today, I saw countless dollars passing into his hands from other Christians who visited him at his little shrine. Doing the math, I figure he makes untold thousands of dollars a year from his little roadside attraction. Probably all tax-free, and hidden from the IRS. After all the help I gave him by promoting his cause online, he can't even promote the website so I can make enough money to pay for the hosting. He once asked me to put video of him thanking people on this website. Bandwidth costs money, so does hosting a website. Today, I asked him to pass out some stickers (promoting the website) along with all those postcards he hands out, and he refused, saying he want's "to keep a low profile". He never turns down the journalists who come out to take pictures for magazines, etc. No low profile speeches to THOSE folks. (How come Leonard?) He didn't turn down ABC news when they requested an interview. The low-profile excuse was a lie, he just didn't feel like returning a favor. What a fine Christian way to act towards a friend! I spent countless hours of my time promoting Salvation Mountain and his artwork. The cost of this website came out of my pocket, but I didn't mind at first because I thought he was legitimate in his worship. I had no idea he was taking people for a ride. Once I saw how much money people were throwing at him, I thought he might possibly remember that many people find directions & info about Slab City on this website, so they can go visit him. My website has, no doubt, brought him countless donations, I've been present to witness a few. Everything from cash to high-gloss paint, has been donated as a direct result of the messages formerly posted on this website, asking for donations. Now that he's Jesus Christ Superstar Inc, he cares nothing about the guy who spent the money to put his thank-you videos online, and posted all the other stuff he asked me to post. Never once did I suspect that Leonard Knight was just out for himself. He gives Christians a bad name. I never asked him for a penny, just a simple favor.

Most of you will get the "friendly" side of Leonard when you first meet him. He'll be quick to show you "the tour" and pass out postcards. He's a real smooth operator, he wants you to take those postcards because it's more free advertising for him. He likes all that money you give him, I've never once seen him turn it down. NEVER. But when it comes to helping a friend, perhaps Leonard should do less painting, and more Bible study. He's one of the greediest people I've ever seen, he cares only about himself. If you're a sucker like I used to be, then be sure to get out your wallet and give him some free cash while you're there so he can add it to his pile of loot. From my experiance with him, I happen to know that he's a compulsive liar. His recent comments certainly tend to back it up. Now that you know the "other" side of Leonard Knight, you can make a more responsible decision as to whether or not to give him any free money. Ever heard the phrase "wolf in sheep's clothing?"
